What is the Agroforestry and Farm Forestry Research Library?
A considerable amount of research has been conducted on farm forestry and agroforestry in Australia in recent decades. Research into the technical, physical, economic, environmental and social aspects of agroforestry and farm forestry has been undertaken in many regions by a wide range of researchers. This research provides a base from which extension officers and practitioners can develop effective, practical and successful agroforestry and farm forestry systems.
Accessing this extensive research base can, however, be challenging. Research has been conducted by hundreds of researchers affiliated to many different research agencies and institutions across the country; research results are not always widely available and accessible.
The Farm Forestry and Agroforestry Research Library,
a project developed by the Joint Venture Agroforestry Program (JVAP) and ANU
Forestry, will provide access to information on agroforestry and farm forestry
research. The project, which will be developed over 2002 and 2003, will produce:
· A central webpage from which databases containing information on
research can be accessed easily, together with other information on finding
research on agroforestry and farm forestry in Australia.
· A database on agroforestry and farm forestry research in Australia.
This will be useful for a wide range of individuals and organizations involved
with the agroforestry and farm forestry industry in Australia; and
· A review of the current state of agroforestry and farm forestry research
in Australia. The review will be based on both a desktop review of research
carried out in recent decades, and on a survey of agroforestry and farm forestry
researchers, extension officers and practitioners in Australia. It will identify
gaps in current research and research priorities for the future.
