FSTY3016 Forest Products is part of the Bachelor of Science (Forestry) course at The Australian National University (ANU). This unit is taught by Professor Philip D. Evans.

For several years, an assortment of online teaching materials have been written by staff and undergraduate student on the Forest Products Industry in Australia and the Non-Wood Forest Products . These web-pages are intended as an introduction to the topics and as a way to expose our students to the potential of the internet.

The main focus of current research is on the weathering and photostabilisation of wood. Some work is also being undertaken in the areas of wood preservation, wood anatomy and wood based composites. Brief descriptions of research projects in these areas along with key publications are given below.

Over the last 10 years a large number of postgraduate students, most of whom were from SE Asia, have received training in the Forest Products area. The Graduate Program in Resource Management and Environmental Science offers research programs and training courses in a broad range of topics concerning forests and associated resources. An example of current research is a Masters project on "Development of techniques for rapidly assessing the surface checking of preservative treated sawn timber"

University scholarships are available to enable individuals with good University records, first class honours preferably, to pursue a higher degrees in the area of Wood Science and Technology. Scholarship application forms can be obtained by writing to; The Graduate School, The Australian National University, Canberra, ACT 0200, Australia. Students with an interest in any of the above areas of research are encouraged to apply. Further information is available on the other web pages on this site.
