  • Core

    Maximum defect core allowable is 10 cm. The wood around the core should be solid to allow the lathe bolts to firmly grip the billet.

    External defects which are not removed from the log by cutbacks, are allowed in limited numbers.

    These defects include

    These defects are allowed under the following conditions;

    Roundness

    The difference between the maximum and minimum diameter at any point along the log shall not exceed 15 percent of the diameter at that point.

    Curly Grain

    Logs especially E. maculata showing curly grain, or ropy grain on the log surface are not acceptable. As cross grain makes it difficult for the veneer clipper to cut.
