The non-wood forest products industries in Australia are small, but are a significant part of the Forest Products Industry in Australia. Bushfoods from Australia and overseas are now grown in several parts of Australia to meet fine cuisine demands. A small but lucritive industry is maturing in the harvesting of medicinal compounds and narcotics from Australian forests. Resins, chemicals and fuels collection can make marginal forest lands profitable in some instances. The list of minor or unusual forest products is only limited by your imagination. This document is a compilation of undergraduate student assignments for the Forest Products unit, Bachelor of Science (Forestry) degree at the Australian National University. We aim to generate interest in this subject amongst the broader community and to educate foresters of the future in the diversity of forest resources in Australia. |
